From the Dock to the Gallery
How do you create a design for an exhibition when the art will always be different? The Detroit Institute of Arts's gallery to showcase newly acquired works of art. A few large objects; many small objects; all paintings, all sculptures; varied themes? A design that permits as much on-the-floor flexibility as possible is what is needed; one the allows elements to be rearranged and installed in different locations that will work around the works of art on view, and still let visitors know what makes these pieces special.
